(Hong Kong, September 17, 2009)
The civil groups in Hong Kong have learned that on September 2, the government released a statement regarding the increasing of the minimum food allowance for foreign domestic workers. We are deeply concerned about absence of a transparent and reasonable mechanism in making this decision. We have written a joint letter to point out that the decision of the government lacks reasonable process as well as accurate indicators, and to demand the participation of civil society through open discussion.
The letter was sent to Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. LEE Siu Kwong, Ambrose, Secretary for Security and Mr. PEH Yun Lu, Simon, Director of Immigration, Immigration Department on September 16. Please refer to the attached letter for your information.
