The urgent appeals programme has experienced considerable growth over the last years. To ensure that individual support by UA programme subscribers will continue despite the increased issuing of urgent appeals, and to ease the possibilities to support the urgent appeals programme, the AHRC has launched an addition to the existing system.
The urgent appeals online support system will now allow our subscribers to send multiple emails in an automatically generated way. Prior to this, people received an email from the AHRC according to which they wrote four to ten letters and emails to the specific recipients listed in the urgent appeal. As far as email writing is concerned, the manual copying and pasting of the given sample letter into new emails that are then sent by the supporter, is not required any more.
In future, all urgent appeals will contain a hyperlink. Following that link brings the supporter to the AHRC website where they can see the draft letter in an online form. They can enter their name and email address, and with a click of a button four to ten appeals are generated automatically in a preview. Each of them will contain the given name and address in the email as the sender, and the respective recipient in the address field and the salutation. After that preview, with one more click by the supporter, all four to ten emails are sent out automatically by the system.
The recipients will then receive an appeal from each supporter who visits the webpage of the system. Each email may have a different subject or varying content, as the supporter is able to edit them if he wishes to.
The supporter only has to fill in two fields on the webpage and press two buttons. In this easy way we hope that the support for the urgent appeals programme world-wide will grow and the human rights violations we report on are dealt with.
