Today, AHRC TV releases the 30th Episode of the Human Rights Asia Weekly Roundup.
The episode opens with analysis of the post-coup situation in Thailand. Tyrell Haberkorn, Thailand expert and Fellow at The Australian National University, speaks with AHRC TV about the military crackdown, continuing arrests, and the ingenious ways of the Thai people to show defiance.
Next, the programme reports the gruesome and bizarre “honour killing” outside the Lahore High Court. It turns out the husband of the victim also killed his first wife in order to marry the current victim, who was stoned to death by her father and male relatives for defying them.
Another brutal gang rape and murder has been committed in India’s state of Uttar Pradesh. AHRC TV tracks the story of the two teen cousins who fell victim and were later found hanging from a mango tree.
In other news, the perpetrators of torture against Gerard Perera in Sri Lanka, who was subsequently killed in 2006 to silence him, have lost an appeal in the Supreme Court to quash an earlier Court of Appeal judgment that had ordered a re-trial.
