This week’s Roundup begins in Nepal where the violence that has plagued the small Himalayan nation during the last few weeks has intensified. Clashes between Tharu protesters and police in Kailali District resulted in the death of a 2-year-old child and the lynching and burning of 8 policemen.
Next, AHRC TV reports from China. Following on from last week’s International Day in Support of Victims of Enforced Disappearance, families of 12 human rights lawyers who disappeared during July’s crackdown have released an open letter calling China a country of fear and panic.
Lastly, AHRC TV features an extensive interview with Angkhana Neelapaijit, who’s husband, human rights lawyer Somchai Neelapaijit, was abducted in 2004. At the time, Angkhana was a housewife. Last month, Angkhana was appointed to the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand. In the interview, Angkhana speaks about her challenging journey during the last 11 years.
