DHARNA CUM FAST OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT JANTAR MANTAR, NEW DELHI from 15th April to 19th April, 2010
The steering committee of the Right to Food Campaign invites all of you to join us from the 15th to 19th of April, 2010 at Jantar Mantar, outside Parliament in Delhi for a Dharna cum fast to protest against the “Food Insecurity Bill” sent to the Union Cabinet by the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGOM). As you are aware the EGOM drafted National Food Security Act proposes a single entitlement of Rs. 25 kgs of grain per BPL household in the name of Food Security.
Since the Parliament begins on the 15th of April, 2010 it is important to knock on their doors the first day itself and let them know about the betrayal that the Government of India would be committing if it accepts this draft bill. It is also our belief that this is an opportune time to present our demands once again on the Right to Food and Food Entitlements Act to the Parliamentarians and leaders of all Political Parties.
We are hoping that representatives of different movements and grass root organizations from all over the country including eminent jurists, academics and writers will join in the protest.
It is our plan to conclude the Dharna on the 19th of April with a panel discussion of speakers from different Political parties, Policy makers, Grass Root Activists where the Campaigns nationwide movement against such a bill will be announced.
We are hoping that you and members from your organisation will join in the protest in Delhi. We need to be at Jantar Mantar in large numbers. Let us all resolve to make this Dharna and fast a success and expose the malicious intent of the Government through its proposed “National Food Insecurity Act“.
We also take this opportunity to give a call to groups all over the country to mobilise against this betrayal at district and State levels through some public action.
